Michael Douglas was born September 25, 1944 is an American actor and producer. He has received numerous accolades, including two Oscars, five Golden Globe Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, the Cecil B. DeMille Award and the AFI Life Achievement Award.
The eldest son of Kirk Douglas and Diana Dill, Douglas received his Bachelor of Arts in Drama from the University of California, Santa Barbara. His first acting roles included film, theater and television productions. Douglas first rose to prominence for his performance in the ABC police procedural television series The Streets of San Francisco, for which he received three consecutive Emmy nominations.
In 1975, Douglas produced Flight Over a Cuckoo’s Nest, having acquired the rights to Ken Kesey’s novel from his father. The film received critical and public acclaim and won the Oscar for Best Picture, earning Douglas his first Oscar as one of the film’s producers.
He played Dr. Hank Pym in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing in the films Ant-Man (2015), Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), and he will reprise his role again in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania movie (2023). He also voiced an alternate version of the character in the MCU animated television series What If …?
Besides his acting career, Douglas has been noted for his humanitarian and political activism, as well as media attention for his marriage to actress Catherine Zeta-Jones.
After the filming of Summertree in 1971, Douglas began dating actress Brenda Vaccaro, a relationship that lasted almost six years.
In March 1977, Douglas, then 32, married Diandra Luker, 19, the daughter of an Austrian diplomat. They had a son, Cameron, who was born in 1978. In 1995, Diandra filed for divorce and received $ 45 million as part of the divorce settlement.
In a relationship since March 1999, Douglas married Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones on November 18, 2000. They were both born on September 25, 25 years apart. Zeta-Jones says that when they met in Deauville, France, Douglas said, “I want to father your children.” They have two children, their son Dylan Michael (born 2000) and daughter Carys Zeta (born 2003). The family owns a coastal estate near Valldemossa, Mallorca.
